The International Trade Administration of the United States Government is an information service from the National Travel & Tourism Office (NTTO).
According to numbers released today by NTTO, US citizen outbound totaled 9.6 million travelers for the first two months, up nine percent. Strong traffic is recorded to the Caribbean, Middle East and Mexico.
Comparing February 2014 with February 2015, US citizens travel to overseas markets totaled 4.2 million, up six percent.
Regional results were:
Europe, 1.09 million travelers, up one percent
Caribbean, 1.17 million travelers, up 12 percent
Asia, 718,000 travelers, up four percent
Central America, 454,000 travelers, up two percent
South America, 265,000 travelers, flat
Middle East, 279,000 travelers, up 15 percent
Oceania, 121,000 travelers, up six percent
Africa, 45,000 travelers, up one percent
U.S. travel to North American markets totaled 5.4 million, up 12 percent.
Mexico, 4.4 million travelers, up 14 percent; air travel (1.27 million) was up 10 percent. (Border travelers, 1+ nights, were up 18 percent)
Canada, 983,000 travelers, up five percent; air travel (351,000) up seven percent (Note: Stats Canada revised 2013-2014 data)

US travel to overseas locations accounted for 44 percent of US outbound international travel.
Europe, a 11 percent share;
Caribbean, a 12 percent share;
Asia, an eight percent share;
Central America, a five percent share;
South America, a three percent share;
Middle East, a three percent share;
Oceania, a one percent share, and
Africa, almost a one percent share
North American markets received 56 percent of all U.S. international outbound travel.
US travel to Mexico, 46 percent share; and Canada, 10 percent share.
In 2011 OTTI began to report U.S. outbound travel monthly by all modes, expanding beyond air-only traffic. Total departure travel, inclusive of all modes, to Canada and Mexico is reported in addition to the air-only subtotals.
The timing of this report is dependent on receipt of aggregate data from Stats Canada and Banco de Mexico.
