Brazil had become a favorite destination for travel and tourism. Airlines from far away places like the Gulf region and Turkey started new services to Sao Paulo or Rio De Janeiro. Brazil had been the venue for major global sports events, despite 42,000 people being shot dead in Brazil in one year.
Stunning scenery and tourism attractions may have put safety and security secondary for travelers to Brazil.
A report by the UN’s Educational, Scientific and Cultural Organisation (UNESCO) found that more than 115 people were shot dead every day in Brazil in 2012, with the highest level of fatalities among young people at 59 percent.
The results pushed the rate of gun deaths to almost 22 per 100,000 inhabitants – the second highest figure recorded by the Map of Violence report.
More than 42,000 people were shot dead in Brazil in one year, according to latest figures, which show the highest level of gun killings in 35 years.
But the number of murders by firearm rose to 20.7 per 100,000, the highest level since 1980.
